Clear as Mud

This is a very rare post everyone, so mark your calendars because these will be few and far between. Usually I let Aundrea handle keeping the whole world clued in on what's going on in the Mills' household. But this is an experience that I want to share personally. Many of you already know we are finishing the bonus room in our house. I began this project with very few tools and even less knowledge. Luckily I've had a host of family members come to my rescue - my Father-in-law (basically serving as the general contractor), Jason - brother-in-law (framing & electrical), & Brad - brother-in-law (HVAC). Not only have I been able to learn a lot from their experience, I've also done a great job of entertaining them with my LACK of knowledge!

We are now in the middle of 'mudding' the sheet rock - using tape & 'mud' to conceal all the seams where pieces of sheet rock meet. How many out there have ever done this? I was told by all 3 of my co-builders on multiple occasions that I should hire this part out. It is messy, time-consuming, and the finished product can really affect the look of the room. I though to myself, "Nah, I've got plenty of time & I can figure this out. No problem. Can't be as bad as they say."

I........

was........

wrong.

Thankfully at this point I am almost finished and ready to start sanding to see how well I actually did. But this has been a long time coming. We have saved quite a bit of money by doing all this work ourselves (with help!), so I'm sure I'd do it again in the future - even with all the moaning & groaning I've done during certain stages!
I've posted a few pictures of where we're at now.

To let you know how time consuming it is - - - I've spent about 2 hours so far in the closet below(& no, it's not that big of a closet).

We'll keep everyone posted as we go on.

Keith
